Meditation During the Three Spiritual Moons

In my study of metaphysics, there is much focus each year on what is called the three spiritual moons or three major spiritual festivals. These represent the powerful full-moon cycles in April, May and June of each year.

It is believed that by consciously connecting with these energies, it can stimulate the consciousness of humanity for betterment and that our ability to do so is at its most potent during these full moons.

If you’re skeptical about meditation, believe me, I understand. But if you’ve ever thought about trying it, the next three months would be a good time to do so.

The April full moon in Aries is called the Christ Full Moon (Easter Festival), and it falls on April 1 this year. The keynote or theme of this cycle is divine intelligence, which stimulates human intellect.

This year the second and third moons of the cycle fall in May, which is unusual because the third spiritual moon usually occurs in June. The second full moon in a single month is called a blue moon and they typically only occur every 2-3 years. A blue moon is associated with an increased opportunity for personal growth, expanded wisdom, and setting of long-term intentions.

The first May full moon is in Taurus and is called the Wesak Full Moon (Festival of the Buddha) and it falls on May 1 this year. The keynote of this cycle is divine understanding, or the love-wisdom principle and is considered the most potent of the three as it stimulates the connection to the divine within the hearts of humanity.

The second May full moon is in Gemini and is called the Festival of Humanity, or World Invocation Day and it falls on May 31. It is a celebration of humanity’s innate goodwill and is focused on the broader idea of nation building. This coupled with the increased opportunity for setting long term intentions makes this a unique opportunity to look to our future and what we would like to see manifest in our world order.

Meditation during the three days prior and the three days after these full moons is recommended so that we can load up on as much of this good stuff as possible. The theory being that people benefit all year long from the energy acquired during meditation at these times.

In meditation, we simply close the eyes, breathe deeply to quiet the mind and open up to the creative or abstract area of our consciousness.

Like a radar dish, we turn our awareness to that area known as the ‘no thinking zone,’ ready to receive impressions from our divine nature. Connecting for just 15 minutes a day can make a difference in our overall well-being.

Like many people, my experiences with meditation have always lacked a “wow” factor. No bright lights, no angels or other super cool experiences. Just me sitting quietly, waiting for something that never seems to show itself. I guess one could say that I meditate on faith that something good is happening.

Having more than three decades of meditation experiences, I can totally understand why people are resistant or feel “too busy” to devote any time to it. While there is an immediate benefit of relaxation, meditation is mostly an abstract experience.

Since our divine nature is formless energy, we can’t really tell when we’ve connected to it, so it’s hard to know whether it’s working. But making the effort to meditate can bring us other, unexpected rewards.

When this abstract energy does filter down into our consciousness, it can show up as a feeling or desire to make a positive change in our life. Or perhaps we come to a deeper understanding about a troublesome situation or relationship in our life.

These experiences are subtle and seem like they come from within us, so we fail to connect these happenings with our meditations.

The benefits of meditation are far reaching, but subtle and hard to define. It’s challenging for the mind to see its usefulness when we are trained to value only physical effects or material things. It takes faith that there is something more to it than meets the eye.

It’s up to each of us as an individual to begin to see life and live life as a co-creator of our divinity. Meditation could be our best connection.

Through meditation, I have found clarity in the midst of upheaval and confusion. It is a tool I use to help me navigate life’s challenges and let go of worry and anxiety.

I use meditation for contemplation, as a time of reflection, and an inner connection to that quiet stillness that recharges my batteries. I often fall asleep too, but that’s okay.

Even if you are not completely sold on the practice of meditation, I would suggest trying it during the upcoming spiritual full moons in April and May. It’s simple, it doesn’t take long and we can load up for the whole year.

The benefits of meditation are never lost, no matter how much or how little – it all adds up.
