Singing bowls produce soothing vibrational frequencies and sounds. They are used for an array of purposes including relaxation, meditation, stress reduction, holistic healing, centering, chakra balancing, Reiki, and music.
The most common is the traditional Tibetan singing bowl, which was introduced to Tibet at the same time as Buddhism from India. Traditional Tibetan singing bowls are hand hammered into various shaped bowls from a copper alloy. Commonly, the bowls are around 4”- 9” is diameter and 2”- 4” tall. They fit in the palm of the hand.
Crystal Signing bowls are a modern adaption of the Tibetan singing bowls. They are composed of reconstituted quartz crystal. Generally, they are larger in size with an approximated diameter of 10” and about 8” tall. Due to size and material, Crystal singing bowls produce a different vibrational frequency and louder sound.
To make a singing bowl “sing,” one can strike the side of the bowl with a mallet. Moving the mallet around the rim of the bowl will also produce the vibrational frequency and sound. The mallet is commonly made of wood, and is partially covered with suede. Using the covered end of the mallet to play the bowl softens the sound.
Singing bowls typically range in tone from an A note to a G note. Each note resonates with a specific chakra. Though the bowl produces a sound for a specific chakra, the vibrational frequency and sound harmonizes and balances all the chakras.
Here are the tones associated with each chakra:
A - Third Eye Chakra
B - Crown Chakra
C - Root Chakra
D - Sacral Chakra
E - Solar Plexus Chakra
F - Heart Chakra
G - Throat Chakra
